World on Wheels: Volume 6

World on Wheels: Volume 6

$ 25.00

The fascination with carriages and carriage driving traverses the world and time.  In 1815/1816 carriage makers did what seems impossible today, they created twenty-four splendid sleighs fit for royalty together with the necessary harnesses and liveries for the outriders within six weeks. But first they had to create equally wonderful wheeled creations for the royalty attending the Congress of Vienna.

From Vienna we travel to the United States to meet the coach known around the world - Delancey Kane’s Tally-Ho. Together this driver and coach start-ed a movement in America that resulted in the formation of The New York Coaching Club and a nation-wide fascination with coaching culture.

Leaving American coaching royalty behind, we move to Japan for a very rare look inside the Imperial Mews. Glance inside the barns to learn about the horses before exploring the fine details of the Imperial carriages. Glimpses of the Imperial Carriage are very rare, even in modern times.

As you review the Imperial Mews watch for European influences, some of those same influencers visited by William Brewster during his studies and travels in Europe. Readers receive a captivating glimpse into life in Europe during 1886 via William’s travel journal. Paris, Berlin, and Vienna are just a few of his stops.

Travel in William’s footsteps as we join a five-in-hand team of horses and a Road Coach going over the Alps in modern times. Truly, our fascination with horse-drawn vehicles knows no borders.
