Driving Lessons by Edwin Howlett

Edwin Howlett's Driving Lessons has become so well known and is so well written that it has become one of the 'kings' in a driver's carriage library. This book helps substantiate and enlarge our knowledge of methods of driving suitable for any driving enthusiast's particular interests.

Originally written in French, and here translated into English in 1894, Howlett has put into print what he had "been teaching for a great many years." Edwin Howlett was a master coachman and instructor for many aspiring drivers in both Europe and America, noted for giving nearly 1,200 driving lessons a year. He has placed into print in Driving Lessons many of the lessons and teachings he acquired in the countless hours spent teaching and training drivers, new and old, the art of driving.

Chapters include: the four horse whip and the way to use it; the reins and their adjustment and use; parts of the coaching including the lamps, brake, skid, etc.; the harness; how to get on the box; and driving techniques.
