Contributors:
AMY BRACEY: is the Project Curator of the Carriage Foundation. By training, she is a museum curator, previous working at accredited museums such as Salisbury and South Wilts Museum, Norwich Castle Museum and for the National Trust for which she catalogued the carriage collection. Her keen interest in research prompts her documentation of historic carriages. She currently holds positions of Trustee and Project Curator of the Carriage Foundation. Her book, The A to Z of Carriages was released in 2020.
STEPHAN BROECKX: a late recruit to driving, started over twenty years ago and was bitten by the antique-carriage bug. He publishes articles on traditional driving and carriage history in magazines in France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He drives in Provence on the tracks of the Crau. He is a retired businessman and was instrumental in bringing together the editors of the contemporary European driving magazines.
DR. MARIO DOBERL: studied history and art history at the University of Vienna (Austria), as well as Università degli Studi in Cagliari. His thesis was about the kingdom of Sardinia under the Austrian Hapsburgs. He received his doctorate from the University of Vienna in 2004, and wrote his dissertation on “The Emperors’ Carriages, a History of carriage-building at the Viennese court during the 18th and 19th century.” He is a member of the staff at Vienna’s famed Kunsthistorische Museum, and has participated in several research projects involving the carriages in the Wagenburg at Schönbrunn Palace, as well as court uniforms.
JERRY D. RIDER: served as President of CAA from 2003-2005 and again from 2016-2019. He joined the Carriage Association of America (CAA) in 1968. Rider has personally restored about sixty carriages including preparation, repair, painting, trimming and striping. The majority of these were Brewster vehicles with a few by Ferd French and the French Carriage Company. Rider was a supporter in the initial move to the Kentucky Horse Park and the later purchase of the CAA building there. He has had the privilege (with unlimited gratitude to Merri Ferrell) of leading the enhancement of the Brewster and Company records and making them available to CAA members and to the public.
