The Heavy Horse by Edward Hart

The Heavy Horse by Edward Hart

$ 4.00
Heavy horses once provided all the motive power needed on farms and much of that required in towns, but cheap petrol and machinery displaced them.  Now they are returning in favour after many years in decline. As pageant or procession pace setters they are unexcelled; for short-haul deliveries they are more economic than motors, and on the land they do certain jobs more cheaply and safely than expensive tractor power.  Britain has its native breeds of horse - Shires, Clydesdales and Suffolks.  Europe has others, such as Percherons, Belgians and Ardennes, while North America has imported from both sides of the Channel.  The author describes these horess and the work they do, where they come from and where to see them.
